Bio 2024
St. Stephen’s – A band with sweet guitar licks, soaring harmonies and finely crafted songs. Influences range from Buffalo Springfield-era sixties folk-rock to 70’s rock n’ roll with Britpop undertones. They have 2 drummers and multiple singers-songwriters.
The name is not a religious reference, but has been a constant presence for the band since it formed. Their weekly song-crafting sessions are a musical communion of sorts, and have taken place across the street from a century old church and cemetery yard in Chelsea, Quebec. The “cemetery gates” and “St Stephen’s” also evoke the musical legacies of The Smiths and Grateful Dead. St Stephen’s has been an anchor for the band – it’s the church they don’t attend on a weekly basis.
St. Stephen’s are a five-piece, Ottawa-Chelsea Quebec, Canada based band formed in the fall of 2012. Formerly known as The Flats, the band has released one full length CD “Between the Beams” in 2010 and one six song EP “Tell Me Something Else” in 2012. The band released their St. Stephen’s debut 11 song CD “All We Are” in 2015. store.cdbaby.com/Artist/StStephens

2014 Nitty Gritty:The Flats are a five piece band that bridge the gap between folk traditions, raucous live energy, and harmonious melodies. The band’s influences range from sixties folk to 70’s rock n’ roll to more contemporary indie rock.
They are based in Ottawa ON and Chelsea QC in Canada.
“The song structure is early-Beatles-esque, but the sound has more in common with a Cuff the Duke or a Wilco. Rocky and dance oriented as they can be, the melody takes precedence, and their incredibly catchy music is difficult to get out of one’s head.”
