On again off again since 2012, when a chance gathering of musicians rallied behind Michael Peterson to record what was idealized to be a solo “song story” telling the tale of a troubled WW2 pilot lost at sea – Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor and Tilda were born!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Tilda carried forward performing around Ontario and into the east coast, producing a few independent ep’s. Andrew, Michael and Tom tracking and performing for a number movie festival trailers and and a couple of Tilda songs would end up on youtube snowboarding film before the guys welcomed a new drummer, Steven Jurgutis. The band with special guest Ben Wilson on keys and guitar gathered at what has become their secret hideaway to record what became Matter of Time over two summers in 2018-19 with Andrew Long in the production seat in the Gatineau hills of Quebec. The band geared up to release Matter of Time live in 2020, when life changed and the world shut down because of you know what.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    4 years later found these longtime musical compadres itching to get back playing again . Michael put a call out to get the band back together and they met up at their secret getaway welcoming Tom Pechloff on keys . They ripped the bandaid off Tilda is now steadily creeping back on stage armed with new heavier driving sound, new tunes and interpretations from the Matter of Time record, while learning how to be a performing band once again. They are and taking ‘no guff’ in their quest to deliver an amazing live show that magically lifts you to your feet, teleporting you back to the days of yore, before smart phones and mortgages and kids and important day jobs, to a time when everything circled around going out to shows, experiencing the power of live music and taking a chance on “I’ll meet you at the bar” friend moments. When you just went out to see what might happen while living moment to moment.

The Latest: The guys have started to lay down tracks for the next record. They just got back from a couple of intense days at the Belmont Lake Sessions in Peterborough working with Ben Wilson as producer and engineer.

Bio 2014

It’s been quite a few years since Tilda was formed in a sweaty storage closet in a warehouse loft in downtown Toronto. Back then the task for Michael Peterson and Andrew Long was simple: collaborate, write, record, repeat. Then life happens.

Fast forward to a dreary Ottawa February in 2012. Michael branched out from his then band, The Flats, to create a solo project under the name Tilda. It accidentally became a band. Michael and Andrew with Nicolas Dyson, Tom Thompson, Brennan Pilkington, with a smattering of other guest appearances, hunker down at Michael’s basement studio to recorded and then release ’Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor’ on their own label Random Orbit Records. They dub the album a ‘song story’ centered around a fictitious WW2 Pilot who has to bail out of his bomber over the ocean only to bob along the surface, awaiting potential rescue.

Tilda hit the road late spring 2013 and completed a series of short, successful record release tours. There have been a smattering of gigs over this winter and more coming this spring, with an East Coast Summer Tour in the works. In the mean time, its down to the basement then off to Belmont Lake Sessions in Peterborough to begin pre-production for the next record.
